Stella Czajkowski is a virtuoso piano soloist from "Freistadt Danzig", today Gdansk in Poland. In 1958 she moved to Sweden, where she is now living.

She made her first appearance in Stockholm in 1960 and continued performing as a soloist with orchestras and in collaboration with the Swedish Radio. She toured in Germany, Poland and all of Scandinavia with many good reviews.

In 1974 she started working as piano teacher at the College of Music in Gothenburg where she also got professor´s title. In Stockholm, where she now recides, Mrs Czajkowski is continuing teaching advanced piano students and several of her disciples reached very high level of performing, almost as high as the teacher...

Stella Czajkowski plays repertoir from all times. On this CD she presents in live recordings made between 1970 and 1976 her interpretations of contemporary Polish music as well as a selection of Chopin oevre.

THE CRITICS:

American Record Guide: "(---) A crisp lucidity and free rubato characterize the playing of Stella Czajkowski, a remarkable pianist who combines the best of modern and romantic styles. (---) The Chopin Etudes here, along with the c-minor Nocturne and A-flat Polonaise, are played with nobility and restraint. The contemporary works, especially the Szymanowski and Lutoslawski, are colorful and daring."

Kammarmusiknytt: "(---) A CD with live recordings from 1970-76 with the Polish pianist Stella Czajkowski, one of these miraculous fates: The gas chamber mechanism failed when she and her sister stood face to face with death, she escaped and came in 1945 to Sweden (---) The company nosag records made a very good deed indeed with this "re-mastering"!"

Hallandsposten: "(---) This CD with this terrific musician (---) contains a variety of live recordings, mostly Polish music. Not only technical brilliance is presented here, also the poetical and musical values are enhenced, especially through tastefully balanced rubatos, finely shaped frases and a sensitive feeling for clang.
