KARIN HÖGHIELM - FABRA

Karin Höghielm is most certainly a controversial composer and voice-expressionist with a very personal style. Fabra - This recording contains newly-composed chamber music, influenced by world music and avant-garde, with lyrics in Russian, old Gotlandic, Latin and Swedish, as well as wordless songs.

Texts attributed to Saint Birgitta, in addition to poems by Arsenij Tarkovskij, George Stiernhielm and the Gotlandic poet Gustaf Larsson, have been set to music.

Listeners will find an intermix of traditional acoustic instruments and the rather more unconventional: bronze horns, cheng, dulcimer, hurdy gurdy, Tibetan praying bowls, recordings of the Falun mine bell, Gotlandic tone stones, millstones and church bells.

Musicians: Mats Edén, Tina Quartey, Annika Jessen, Tängman, Therese Helgesson, Per Tidstrand, Patrik Trankell and Östgöta kammarkör

from "Döden"

THE CRITICS:

Lunar Hypnosis-USA: " One of the more fascinating and mighty addictive albums to find its way into my stereo recently comes from the Swedish composer, multi instrumentalist, and singer Karin Höghielm. Karin’s music is an eclectic mix of avant-garde chamber music with various traditional music influences. The thing I really like about ‘Fabra’ is that the music is very diverse and differs from song to song. On this recording you can hear classical, folk, medieval, Celtic, and even some other indefinable influences, which of course all sound fantastic."

Nordische Musik-Germany: " Cd of the month April vocal quality: * * * * * * intepretation: * * * * * * sound: * * * * *"

Aftonbladet - Sweden: " Ritual, beautiful and mysterious."

Women on air – Boston : " Very powerful and spiritual!"

Chaos Realm - music magazine-Baltimore, USA: " Vibrant power galore and all without a stack of Marshalls."

Nerikes Allehanda – Sweden: " Timeless, very characteristic and beautiful ****"

Rec Rec - Swizerland: " She creates again a fascinating mixture from Mari Boine, Meredith Monk, Stimmhorn and Wim Mertens."

Swedish library service: " Moving, contemplative and thought-provoking. Karin Höghielms music is also comparable with contemporary-classics like John Tavener och Henryk Górecki – but with more influences of traditional folkmusic."
