|The viola is the only instrument with its own names day, and maybe the instrument told most funny stories about. It is sometimes a misunderstood instrument - many people believes it plays a subordinated role in the orchestra. So VERY wrong! Without the viola the musical world would be much, much less rich.|
On this CD Bengt Andersson, former first viola player of the Gothenburg Opera Orchestra and Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, plays a viola built in 1793 and the repertory he has chosen is really messured with golden thread: There are contemporary pieces written for the soloist by Marco Ciannella and Argenzio Jorio, and also Swedish pieces by Fredrik Sixten, Hilding Hallnäs, Olof Gullberg, Torsten Sörenson and Ture Rangström´s beautiful Mälarlegender. The last three composers´ music are for solo piano, played by Ingemar Edgren.
We can also listen to two Violin Sonata movements by Mozart arranged for viola.
GöteborgsPosten: "(---) All these pieces are first recordings. "
Borås Tidning: "(---) The Mesto by Fredrik Sixten is a gem and Legend by Hilding Hallnäs has colourful qualities before the viola gives a new, dark shading to two unusual movements from Mozart´s K377. A little odd CD, filled with clang. "
BTJ: "(---) The CD contains part from beautiful pieces for viola and piano, also some works were the skillful pianist Ingemar Edgren plays solo. "
