nosag CD 102Åke Olofsson / Karin Strid - CELLO & ORGEL

This very contemplative and beautiful CD is filled with the most relaxing and softly calming music from all times, played with a lyrical bow on the Cello by maestro Åke Olofsson, former solocellist of the Swedish Radio Symphonics, and the Organist of the Seglora Church in Sweden´s most visited open-air museum Skansen, Karin Strid.

Åke Olofsson, Cello, has played as a soloist with conductors like Celebidache, Maazel, Barbirolli and others, and together with David Ojstrach he recorded Brahms´ Double Concerto for Violin and Cello. He played chamber music in several ensembles like Saulescokvartetten, Stockholmstrion and Leygrafkvartetten. He toured in Europe, Japan and former Soviet Union. As one of the foremost cellists in his generation he is most recognized as Bach interpreter.
Åke Olofsson is a member of the Swedish Royal Academy of Music and is honoured with the medallion "Litteris et artibus" from the hands of His Majesty the King for his artistical deeds.

Karin Strid, Organ, is educated at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, and continued with special studies in organ playing in Denmark and in Germany. She is since 2002 working as organist in Seglora Church in the open-air museum Skansen in Stockholm. She also has several assignments as free-lance musician. She very much likes to play in combination with Cello and often works as accompanist on different occations. Karin Strid toured in Europe and at exotic sites in for example Japan and Greenland. nosag CD 3115ALLGÉN: Sonata for Solo Violin - JOAR SKORPEN (2CD+1 DVD)

This is the world premier recording of the almost two hour Sonata for Solo Violin by Swedish excentric composer Claude Loyola Allgén - this is music that, like the composer´s String Quartet #2 (nosag CD 114), had an enormous impact on the listeners when it was performed, now by young violinist Joar Skorpen in 2000. This is a recording from that very live concert - on two CDs and with an extra bonus: Parts of the general rehearsal with all the 25 music stands, the broken string and Skorpen´s struggle captured on a DVD.
Most of the musical oevre of Claude Loyola Allgén was unperformed for a very long time, considered "crazy" or "unplayable". When this talented artist plays the complicated score it turns out to be filled with great beauty, fantasm, composer´s skill and sentiment. This is, like the recording of the String Quartet #2, a historical - and artistical - really great deed, indeed!

nosag CD 114ALLGÉN: String Quartet #2 - IORE String Quartet

Now it is here! The world premier recording of String Quartet #2 by Swedish excentric composer Claude Loyola Allgén - this is music that had an enormous impact on the listeners when it was recently first performed by IORE String Quartet. The same ensemble here presents the exciting piece in a live concert recording in 2004.

Most of the musical oevre of Claude Loyola Allgén was unperformed for a very long time, considered "crazy" or "unplayable". When these really serious musicians take care of the complicated score it turns out to be filled with great beauty, fantasm, composer´s skill and sentiment. The newly started IORE String Quartet here does an historical - and artistical - really great deed, indeed!

nosag CD 162ANDRE CHINI - eallin

The Same population is the original people of the North of the neighbour countries Sweden/Norway/Finland. The Same culture is very colourful, rich in tradition and with its very own type of chanting - the jojk - a traditional storytelling like a musical formula mantra that evokes spirits of nature as well as daily working duties or old stories.

Swedish composer André Chini is born in the mountains of Southern part of France and his people are very similar to the Same in tradition, closeness to nature and music formula. Chini on this CD interprets the jojk chanting soul into a contemporary orchestral piece with lots of rite percussion and clang of the unseen. He also presents the mystery of Arctic light in another great piece - Norrsken, as well as transforming the myths and stories from the North into other of his chamber music pieces.

As an extra bonus we also hear traditional recordings of jojk chanting by four different Same voices.

Our youngest virtouso singers: Adolf Fredik Music School Choir/ Adolf Fredriks Musikklasser - This CD is a re-release of an LP that was recorded in 1985, and now for the first time can be heard the real powerful descant clang of the children sopranos that caused the gramophone needle in the 80:s to distort the sound. The music and the performance is very high class and also today the repertory is interesting and daring: Songs by Kodály, Schubert, Åhlén, Eklöf, Hammarström and Dürrner are blended with new arrangements by Jan-Åke Hillerud and some old Swedish folktunes performed with a very beautiful, pure and young freshness by these musical children conducted by Bo Aurehl.

nosag CD 100BJÖlRN ERLANDSSSON - Grönskan

Lennart Sjögren is one of the finest poets of Sweden. He is born and living on the island Öland outside the Swedish east coast. In his poems nature is always present as the fundamental base for all of Man´s doing. Animals frequently pass by and all of his texts are filled with a dark and sincere environmental mood.

Now pianist/composer Björn Erlandsson put some of these poems to music. He scored for Mezzo Soprano (here sung by amazing Margaretha Melz, also appearing on nosag CDs 003 and 008), Saxophone Quartet (Hässlö Saxofonkvartett) and piano (the composer).
Erlandsson also wrote four Summer poems for piano and four saxophones, very well matching the beautiful and tender mood of this sweet CD.

nosag CD 072BJÖRN J:SON LINDH - A day at the Farm (Vestmanniaensemblen)

The jazz flutist Björn J:son Lindh is well-known for his many recordings of his own music with a very personal, unique way of playing the flute. Less known are his compositions for chamber ensemble. Here we are presented first recordings of very humourous, entertaining and ear-candylike music - for example the sound of a day at the farm, the title of the CD - but also introvert, meditative and calm layed back gems of contemplation for wind quintet, piano and different combinations of those instruments. In the suite "A day at the farm" you can also hear the Swedish folklore instrument keyed fiddle, a kind of hurdy-gurdy played with a bow, like a violin, but the stops made with a mechanique like the old medevial instrument.

nosag CD 138BOO EGEBJER - Med psaltare, harpa och lite norrsken

The tender Baritone Saxophone Player and composer Boo Egebjer here presents thirteen hymns and songs that document the close collaboration with his friends in Piteå Kyrkokör, conducted by Kerstin Baldwin, and also show a slowly growing musical Gospel work where the prayer is always at hand but the arrogance and self secure attitude is far away. These songs in Swedish will work their way into the gospel singing of many choirs in the Nordic countries.

The choir singing is accompanied by great players
Jerry Winblad von Walter, flute
Johan Tegheim, piano
Erik Lundström, bass
Stefan Söderlund, guitar
and the composer
Boo Egebjer, baritone saxofon

nosag CD 106BOO EGEBJER - S:t Eskilsmässan

Swedish Baritone Saxophone player Boo Egebjer (homepage http://boo.egebjer.just.nu) here presents his latest, and maybe greatest work for choir and ensemble - S:t Eskilsmässan/The Mass of Saint Eskil. This sacred piece is a beautiful example of how Egebjer music works - jazz improvisation with classical composing, choir and soloists. A small jazz group meet choirs of both children and mixed adults thus making this sermon very solemn and beautifully meditative.

The piece was comissioned by Österhaninge Congregation situated in the clean countryside just outside Stockholm and the mass is performed with local singers.

nosag CD 160BOO EGEBJER - St Eskilsmässan / Guds dag

Boo Egebjer is educated at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, his work as composer and lyricist covers simple songs as well as big scale pieces for choir and orchestra. Stylistically he uses both jazz and hard rock: no honest expression is alien to him.

This CD contains a concert version for Baritone Saxophone and organ of the St Eskil Mass, originally composed for Soloists, Choir and instrumental ensemble. It is available on nosag CD 106.

As a musician, specialising in the Baritone Saxophone, and as a singer, Egebjer tours Sweden and other parts of Europe. In the last few years, he has also toured North America. He has for many years played Saxophone interpretations of hymns for religious services broadcasted by the Swedish Radio. One lasting result of this is the friendship and many collaborations with organist Åke Skommar, as on this CD.

Boo Egebjer is also available on

nosag CD 066BOO EGEBJER - Wermdörapsodi

Swedish Baritone Saxophone player Boo Egebjer has made himself a big name as a composer and a musician with a big horn. He is an amazing jazz musician with a lyrical and melodious touch that few can match. This Rhapsody on his own songs around the theme Wermdö Archipelago is a beautiful example of how Egebjer makes ends meet - jazz improvisation with classical composing, choir and soloists. A small jazz group of young very talented players meet several local choirs of both children and mixed adults, all blended with the sound from the Wermdö Church´s own bells, well in tune with the music.

nosag ROS 001Bengt Andersson/Ingemar Edgren - LEGEND

The viola is the only instrument with its own names day, and maybe the instrument told most funny stories about. It is sometimes a misunderstood instrument - many people believes it plays a subordinated role in the orchestra. So VERY wrong! Without the viola the musical world would be much, much less rich.

On this CD Bengt Andersson, former first viola player of the Gothenburg Opera Orchestra and Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, plays a viola built in 1793 and the repertory he has chosen is really messured with golden thread: There are contemporary pieces written for the soloist by Marco Ciannella and Argenzio Jorio, and also Swedish pieces by Fredrik Sixten, Hilding Hallnäs, Olof Gullberg, Torsten Sörenson and Ture Rangström´s beautiful Mälarlegender. The last three composers´ music are for solo piano, played by Ingemar Edgren.
We can also listen to two Violin Sonata movements by Mozart arranged for viola.

nosag CD 113Björn Malmqvist - BALTIC BASS

The double-bass has a fantastic potential as a solo instrument with its enormous range, its very special colour palette, its harmonics, its pizzicato possibilities and last but not least, its singing qualities. Many contemporary composers have realized this, and through the last decades there has been a great deal of music composed for the double-bass. The influences of great instrumentalists like Gary Karr, Franco Petracchi, Edgar Meyer, and many others can not be overestimated.

A little bit of this music is presented on this CD. It is all what we call "contemporary" –Henze’s "Serenade" from 1949 being the oldest and Christensen´s "Le Chemin de Diamant" being the newest, composed in 1996. The music is all written for double-bass solo, except for the Christensen piece, which is a duet with the cello. One instrument but many moods and characters. We call the CD "Baltic Bass" because the music all comes from countries around the Baltic Sea.

Here you here the great soloist Björn Malmqvist, the principal of the bass section in the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra (SON).

nosag CD 070Bromme/Práda - SATURDAY AFTERNOON CONCERT

Rolf Bromme, baritone from Stockholm, sings some of his favourite songs with pianist Sandra Brucker at this Saterday Afternoon Concert in the Anglian Church of Stockholm, a concert rather typical for the church´s programs. Sandra Brucker, pianist, originally from Arad in Transilvania. She teaches from 1998 at Lilla Akademien in Stockholm.

Hungary born Swedish composer Csaba Deák is well-known in the world of wind orchestras as he did very much for the music in this genre, composed a great number of pieces, of course, but also worked as an ambassadeur and front man in the wind orchestral organisation WASBE. Here nosag records presents first recordings of five great pieces:
1) The beautiful ANÉMONE de FELIX, composed as a present to the chairman of WASBE;

3) the funny and playful FARINA PAGUS, composed for the orchestra of a little municipal town of Sweden, Mjöby (the title means the village name in latin);
4) the big SYMPHONY for WIND ORCHESTRA, very difficult to manage for the musicians;

nosag CD 088DAG LUNDIN - Piano Music (Solweig Wikman, piano)

Dag Lundin may be said to be a ‘tonal composer of today’, one who has never been interested in radical experiments in his composing. He treats the instruments and the singing voice in a traditional manner and prefers to write music that appeals to the general public. All music must be melodical and have a main thread, a connecting thought, he says; it may be in some repetition, a bass line, a rhythm or a special motive. Dag Lundin’s musical style can be described as a Nordic constellation of late Romanticism and Impressionism with elements of folk music.

Solveig Wikman´s debut on the concert platform took place in 1965 and since then she has given concerts as a soloist, performed chamber music and acted as an accompanist all over Sweden, the neigh-bouring Nordic countries and other countries. She has also played piano duets with her husband Bertil Wikman for concerts, radio, TV and recordings. Since 1978 she has been one of Sweden’s few full-time pianists, at present at Sörmland’s Music & Theatre.
For many years Solveig Wikman has been one of the first to take an active part on behalf of Dag Lundin’s piano compositions. Many of them have been performed at concerts and some have been recorded for Radio Sweden.

nosag CD 143DEBORAH HENRIKSSON - Simple Gifts

”Simple Gifts” combines different kinds of songs in order to come closer to universal experience, in order to move the listener. Musical expression using the human voice is as old and as varied as humanity. Thus the songs have been carefully chosen to express universal truths and experiences with which we can all identify: the common denominator being that life is a gift, that we are all on the same journey, and that personal truth can be found by looking and listening within.

DEBORAH HENRIKSSON is an American singer and music teacher who has lived and given concerts in Sweden for many years.

nosag CDVD 142DUO GELLAND - Dillon Traumwerk (DVD)

In this experimental art music DVD Duo Gelland performs music by James Dillon in a concert-like situation for Johan Ramström´s single camera. It´s a performance that takes place in real time in a physical place. The performers stomp and breathe, yet instead of making the audience merely see what they hear, Johan Ramström has involved the eye in a choreography - literally taking the camera for a swirl about the church, accidentally even bumping into the performers - the camera becomes a third member of the ensemble.
One night wonder; Is the camera´s dance due to convulsive insights borne out of the music? Or is the camera´s wide eye catching the music in a magical spell, forming it, coaxing it on all the way to the end?

This is a new way of filming art music performances!

Here he gathered a string ensemble, playing tango with accordeon, contemporary Swedish composers such as Eberhard Eyser, Christer Karlberg and Håkan Johansson, as well as hot chambermusic by Mauro Godoy and Roland Dyens. And a totally surprizing arrangement of music by F. Liszt - for guitar and accordeon - Is Piazzolla aware of the challenge? A very entertaining contemporary CD!

nosag CD 127GUNNAR BUCHT - Five decades

The Swedish composer Gunnar Bucht on this CD presents a collection of his chamber music compositions written during five decades - from the Six seasons´ songs from 1965 up to the violin duo Tre per due from 2004. We meet the composer in a sound universe where his very personal tone and voice is always heard, regardless of time or type of ensemble.

The most significant caracteristics of the music of Gunnar Bucht can be simplyfied in one word - orchestral. His music is always powerful, dynamic and filled with colours, even if the "ensemble" is a solo piano or two violins - you almost hear an orchestra playing. This is not in any way meaning that his music is always loud and heavy - on the contrary; few ensembles can play as soft and quiet as a full orchestra, or for that matter - a choir. You get the full spectrum of expression from the chamber music of Gunnar Bucht, who by the way is most known as composer of gigantic orchestral pieces ;-)

The music is performed by great Swedish artists:
Annika Skoglund, Soprano
Love Derwinger, piano
Duo Gelland, violin duo
Members from Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra
(conducted by Jan-Lennart Höglund)
Aguéli-kvartetten (Jan & Marie Stigmer, PO Lindberg, Torbjörn Rapp)

nosag CD 158GÖRAN AGDUR / SEMMY STAHLHAMMER - hands folded

On this CD composer and pianist Göran Agdur continues his cooperation with violinist Semmy Stahlhammer with whom he previously released the album Dawn Earth. Similar to Dawn Earth (nosag CD 051), you will find a mixture of different character pieces for violin and piano. Some of these pieces bring out a folkloristic nordic tone, but here is also waltzes and music which might have been inspired by Romani music.

All stylistic comparisons aside, this music is ultimately very personal and specifically Agdurian one could say. The melodies are strikingly songful and you almost get an impression of the violin pronouncing invisible lyrics. Sometimes we are moved to the telling of a fairy tale, an atmosphere of once upon a time… However these shadings always gather together in the beauty of the violin melody; this expression is always at the center.

nosag SHP CD 621KARIN HÖGHIELM - Apocryphal

Apocryphal - peculiar, odd newly written music fertilized by both folk music and classical. Karin Höghielm is most certainly a controversial composer and voice-expressionist with a very personal style. Excitement, respect and irreverence are mixed in a way that leads to interesting and innovative works. In several parts it is the human voice and the movement Karin Höghielm uses to convey and illustrate the wordless song that is the very foundation of her music; visualising the song and movement becomes her central aim. Her work provides a vision of timeless universal emotion, which is an enriching feeling that remains with the audience long after the end of the concert.

Karin´s debut album including thirteen compositions for Two female voices, 8 musicians, a male vocal-quartet, and a mixed choir.

nosag CD 080OLOV FRANZÉN - La Terza Via

This CD contains Olov Franzén´s four main compositions for solo cello:

The Unseen Present (1993)
Organic Music No2 "The Uncreated light" (1995)
Gryningsmusik (Dawn Music) (1980)
La Terza Via (The Third Way) (2000)

They are all quite unique and without parallels in the cello literature. Including them in one’s repertoire should be a challenge to every cellist.

Olov Franzén´s compositions encompass all sorts of vocal and instrumental combinations, from solo pieces to large orchestra and choir. His style has been described as "more modern than Modernism, though not difficult to understand," perhaps because his gravity and engagement is always more important than any musical style.

He is quite concerned about the great problems of the world today, with its escalating environmental pollution, violence, and wars. To counter this, he wants to enrich the spiritual values of life in every way.

Music is one such important way.

nosag CD 146PETER LINDROTH - Boxed Chamber

Peter Lindroth about his musical work:

My music is mine, but I inhabit a musical room where early memories of popular songs from the fifties; piano exercises; concerts; music school; pop-groups; choirs; music colleges; theatres; Swedish ‘folk parks’; nightclubs; studios, and composition studies co-exist with a constantly present radio. All of these things are input that, of course, affect the output. To me ‘tradition’ is something omnipresent. You can stroll around in it like an old city; take a closer look at the buildings, or just walk about in the everchanging scenery, lost in ones own thoughts. You could chose not to see it, but it´ s still there, regardless.
At times I feel the need to distance myself from my music. I find it helpful to let the music rest for a while. When I do that, mercifully I remember very little of the compositional process. If I don’t let it rest for a while then there’s always the risk that memories of composing the piece might end up blocking my ears. I try to listen intuitively. . Of course I do remember what it was I was trying to achieve, and the special moments when the pieces started coming alive and began communicating with me.

This CD contains chamber music from this very many-faced Swedish composer. Peter Lindroth music is also available on nosag CD 133.

nosag CD 133PETER LINDROTH - Från den oföränderliga bryggan

Peter Lindroth composed this amazing "chamber opera" for Basso voice and chamber ensemble to a rich text by poet Ludvig Josephson and the result, when performed by perfectly suited KammarensembleN and singer John Erik Eleby, conducted by Michael Bartosch, is a miniature drama that keeps you engaged to the very end:

One man’s unhappy love affair with his own memories and the past keeps him from taking part in his present, which is happening all around him. He prefers to move in border territories, both those between dreams and reality and purely geographical ones; Stockholm’s northeastern highway exits serve as a sort of stage for his nostalgic fantasies and wondrous experiences. Slightly ashamed, the man realizes that his consciousness is full of junk that doesn’t lead him anywhere, and he feels that his observant attention to details and other people amounts to pure voyeurism.
A song cycle about an autumnal longing From the unchanging pier (the title of the CD in Swedish) on the horizon.

nosag CD 091PETERSON-BERGER OCH POETERNA - Faringer/Johnson

It is commonly acccepted that Wilhelm Peterson-Berger (1867-1942) is one of Swedish music history’s best known personalities - as composer, critic, cultural debater, opera playwright, translator etc. The selection on this record takes us from the composer’s very earliest songs (late 1880’s) to the last Karlfeldt songs which were written for the poet’s final collection of poems Hösthorn from 1927.

Soprano Solveig Faringer´s versatility is evidenced by a career that has alternated since her debut in 1973 between different genres such as chamber music, romances, opera, sacred music, and folk music.
Pianist Lena Johnson grew up in the province of Jämtland, and was therefore already as a child exposed to the music of Peterson-Berger, which has since then been an oft-recurring part of her repertoire.

nosag CD 109POULENC - STOCKHOLMS POULENCENSEMBLE

The French composer Francis Poulenc was a man with two faces - at least. "The Munk and the Rake" is a desciption created by a French music journalist and that has been used for his apart sacred and profane works. The joyful member of the composers group Les Six wrote easy-going music for the parlour - and he alse set prayers by the munk Holy Franciscus to music. Poulenc is a composer who writes an opera about nuns facing death for their believes - and about Thérèse´s tits, where these parts of her body takes flight like baloons. With the works chosen for this CD you can maybe sense the broad spectre of the Poulenc oevre.

nosag CD 123PRADA / SPARF / STOCKHOLM STRING ENSEMBLE - Nukonserter

The Stockholm String Ensemble was formed in 1998 by freelance musicians who had worked together earlier in music projects of a more temporary nature. Their goal is to play primarily Swedish music with emphasis placed on the music of our times, preferably in close collaboration with the composers.

Many pieces have been given their world premieres by flutist Kinga Práda. She has also recorded a CD solely consisting of contemporary Swedish music for flute, together with the percussionist Markus Leoson, Ilona Jánky Práda and Filarmonica de Cluj, on nosag CD 029, and also together with Ilona Jánky Práda nosag CD 082 with virtuoso flute pieces from 19th and early 20th centuries.

Nils-Erik Sparf, violin, is highly regarded as a soloist and chamber musician around the world and has made award-winning records with Anne-Sofie von Otter and Bengt Forsberg. He appears on several nosag CDs.

The conductor Sven H Åberg is at the moment a teacher in flute and conducting at the music institute on the island of Åland. He is also active as a chamber musician and soloist, recording for the Swedish Radio and nosag records. For the past five years he has conducted the Stockholm String Ensemble.

On this very intense concert CD these great artists perform new concertos - Nukonserter - by Csaba Deák, Johan Hammerth, Ingvar Karkoff and Martin Larson.

nosag CD 067Peter Schuback/Davor Kajfes - IMPOSITIONS

This recording was made in Stockholm on the 23rd of October, 2000 at Radio Sweden's Studio 2. The musicians had no preconceptions and did not even discuss what they should play. An 76 minutes long tape was recorded, out of which a selection of 60 minutes is here presented.

Davor Kajfes and Peter Schuback have been working together for two years with this kind of direct creation, musicianship, composing, or what can even be called improvisation. They prefer the term "impositions".

Impositions are something like improvisations. These words seek to express the possible as it is making itself possible. Improvisations can be heard as such only as long as they are heard improvisationally and this means that they must be heard without a comprehensive understanding of improvisation. They cannot be heard as a kind of improvisationism, that is, as part of any attempt to construct a system of improvisation.

nosag CD 153SCHOLA SKÖNDAL - Spiritus Domini

Most of the music on this CD is Gregorian chant, otherwise known as "plainchant" or "plainsong" - the oldest kind of vocal church music and, accordingly, the oldest music still performed regularly. In its original form it is sung in unison, and the words are always liturgical (part of the church service). Mostly they come from the Bible, and usually from the book of Psalms.

True to the ensemble´s desire also to include contemporary music in the program, to link this ancient way of singing to our times, two composers of today has set old texts to music - Tu es Petrus is composed by Per Gunnar Petersson and Salve Regina by Maria Löfberg.

Schola Sköndal is an ensemble of eight male voice singers specialising in early vocal music, mainly Gregorian plainsong but also early polyphony. It was formed in 2002 and has made several tours of varying duration throughout the length and breadth of Sweden. The leader is Karl Göran Ehntorp, director of music at Stora Sköndahl Church and head of the department of church music at Ersta Sköndal University College.

nosag CD 046SCHUMANN - Duets and piano music (Druve Twins & Lars Hägglund, piano)

Duets and great piano pieces by Robert Schumann performed by the Druve twins, a duo that gave us duets by Mendelssohn on nosag CD 019 "...exactly the way it sounded when Felix and his sisters sang at home - pure and somewhat naïve." according to critics. Now they collaborate with very personal pianist Lars Hägglund, who also presents some of Schumanns most wellknown piano music, but in a way you NEVER heard them played. How about an almost 8 minutes of Träumerei, for example?

nosag CD 2090STAFFAN BJÖRKLUND - 12 Modulationen, Palindrom, Reminiszenzen (2CD)

"12 Modulationen, Palindrom und Reminiszenzen" has its spiritual starting point in Bach’s “Das Wohltemperierte Klavier,” and the work’s pianistic play it is also related to K. Stockhausen’s "Klavierstücke." In the field of energy between these poles, an inner drama "an inner battle" plays itself out: the lone person’s battle with himself and his means of expression, the lonely fight before the ice-cold and ancient eye of the universe.

Staffan Björklund (b. 1944), former cathedral organist in Linköping, Sweden, now free lance as a pianist and composer, created this enormous "Dialogues pour piano seul" 1991 when he spent some months in Paris, re-taking contact with his friends from studying years, and also concentrating on composing. The result is an amazingly powerfull solo piece, 70 minutes long and filled with extreme expression and emotion. The recording, from the performance at Swedish Academy of Music 1993, captures the intensity that even caused a string to breake in the grand Steinway piano!

nosag CD 032STAFFAN BJÖRKLUND - There is a fountain...

Staffan Björklund (b. 1944), cathedral organist in Linköping, Sweden, has within a short time risen to a dominant position in Swedish religious musical life. A cathedral of the scale of Linköping´s offers great possibilities, not only for the classical heritage of sacred music but also for Staffan´s own compositions that fill the huge space with novel sounds. Staffan has a deep instinct for music´s spiritual dimensions and we can hear many influences - Swedish folk music, jazz and blues. He has strong connections with French musical life, but is mainly inspired by his love of the Swedish landscape. The Choral is the heart of the evangelical sacred music. Like an enormous oak it stretches its bulk of leaves towards the sun. But into the dark soil the roots dig themselves for nourishment. The music on this CD is Staffan Björklund´s declaration of love to the many faced Choral, with its plenitude of expressions.

nosag CD 137STELLAN SAGVIK - Missa Maria Magdalena - 2007 version

"I have in the text to this dramatic Mass only used texts from the Bible, with certain small adjustments made for ease of use. Sometimes, a descriptive text has been changed to a quote, and vice versa. I have chosen to see Mary Magdalene as a symbol, a personification of all the weak, disregarded, fallen, and “lost” women whom Jesus met on his journey. No one was excluded from his protection. All had the chance to see and believe. And those who doubted, as Mary did when her “brother” Lazarus had died; they were given a demonstration of what belief could achieve. It might therefore be Mary Magdalene who later so faithfully stands at the Teacher’s side, at the cross, at the grave, during his resurrection. In any event, she is a character who is involved ´where it happens.´" /

nosag CD 2028STELLAN SAGVIKs landskap

This is a very special double CD with music and hear-plays by Swedish composer Stellan Sagvik - It is based on Swedish folklore tunes from different parts of Sweden, played by a solo wind instrument and strings, but it is NOT arrangements, more a contemporary comment with the old material twisted and turned and interluded with sound scapes from different times and places - 18th century harbours, town squares of today and yesterday, water dripping mines, birdsong glens, steps on old stairs and shoot-outs outside the restaurant.
A kind of ear journey, with a light joke attitude eye.

As one of the musicians put it: "This is NOT folklore, this is NOT contemporary classical, this is NOT arrangements, this is NOT eam , this is a bloody sallad!"

The 138 minutes CD is filled with great artist from Sweden and Transylvania and the composer is conducting.

nosag CD 093STEVE DOBROGOSZ - Requiem / Te Deum

This CD contains sacred music written in 2001 and 2002 by celebrated pianist and composer Steve Dobrogosz, for soprano solist, choir and orchestra. These new sacred pieces have all the potential values that will make them as successfull and we will see a series of performances of this great and very beautiful music the coming years. This is music that will sound for centuries.

The music is performed by the extreamly well-sounding St.Jacob´s Chamber Choir, the splendid Orchestra from the Royal Stockholm Opera, a young amazing soprano soloist - Hannah Holgersson - all conducted by Gary Graden who had several great successes with his choir the last years.

nosag CD 125STEVE DOBROGOSZ - When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom´d

Though Whitman’s epic poem was ignited by tragedy – America’s first presidential assassination in 1865 – “When Lilacs Last In The Dooryard Bloom’d” refracts a full spectrum of light through the prism of Abraham Lincoln’s death and funeral. Verse by wistful verse, we follow Whitman as he constructs a cathedral-of-words around the spirit of the man who, through the ravages of war, kept a young nation alive at the cost of his own life. Of all Whitman’s work, “Lilacs” cried out to be sung as a choral symphony.
This is Steve Dobrogosz’s epic musical painting of the poet’s historic words, performed by S:t Jacobs Chamber Choir and Uppsala Chamber Symphonics.

nosag CD 159STOCKHOLM SINGERS - Lucia

For the Swedish, the Feast of Saint Lucia signals the onset of Christmas and is the highlight of the Advent season. Folklore suggests that the roots of Lucia history begin in Syracuse, Italy, around 300 A.D. when an innocent, young girl was coveted by a local Nobleman. When she refused his advances, he had her condemned as a Christian and attempted to have her burned. Legend has it that she emerged unharmed by the flames.

2007 privided the choir Stockholm Singers and its conductor Bo Aurehl with an opportunity to celebrate Lucia in the great hall of the Nordiska muséet in Stockholm. The atmosphere was magical, the audience was captivated and a repeat the following year was a forgone conclusion.

This recording featuring soloist Mezzosoprano Susann Végh allows us to recapture these enchanted moments.

nosag CD 155STOCKHOLMS GOSSKÖR - Live 2008

This CD contains live recordings with The Stockholm Boys´ Choir from Gustaf Vasa Church, from the Stockholm Concert Hall and from a tour in Italy during the choir´s 70th anniversary in 2008. The choice of music has deliberately been made in order to show the width of the choir´s repertoire and includes two remarkable premiers, composed by Hans-Ola Ericsson and Carl Unander-Scharin.

The Boys Choir is nowadays associated with classical choir music in an English tradition, a change which was made possible by allowing the men’s choir to become a permanent part of the choir. Earlier the men’s choir had only accompanied the boys’ choir on certain occasions. By uniting boys’ and men’s voices at the same time as alto boys were exchanged for counter tenors, conductor Roland Nilsson gave The Stockholm Boys’ Choir a new tonal identity, a new timbre that opened the way to a new exciting repertoire.

Each year the choir gives a large number of concerts in Sweden, participate on TV and at the Opera House in Stockholm. The choir also goes on tour regularly. The choir has visited USA and most countries in Europe several times.

nosag CD 131SVANHOLM SINGERS - Live in Japan

The male choir Svanholm Singers is really ”Big in Japan” - made several tours in the east and this CD is the result of recordings from some of the concerts the choir made the last three times it visited the land of the cherry blossom.
Already the first number - Bartók´s Négy régi magyar népdal - sets the level from nineteen singers and their conductor Sofia Söderberg Eberhard, with crisp, rhythmically exact and amazingly well sounding singing.
The program contains, part from Bartók´s Hungary, a rich collection music from Finland, Russia, Sweden, Iceland, Estonia, Indian America, England, and of course from Japan, sung in perfect Japanese!

nosag CD 105SVANHOLM SINGERS - december

Christmas wears many faces - Peace, The Virgin born child, incarnation and temptations facing the unexplainable, are celebrated with morning chant, christmas trees and cartoon films on the TV. Beside the church traditions and contemplation about the spiritual message of the season, the commersial stress, trafic jam and last-minute-presents roar. Togetherness, warmth and sincerity are strengthened amongst family and friends while lonelyness grows enormously for those missing somebody to share the event with.

This the second CD from Svanholm Singers Male Chamber Choir consists of 20 snapshots from the various moments and shapes of Christmas. The music covers from Medievial hymns, romantic era songs and Russian chant up to contemporary music. The warm, cosy feeling in traditional Christmas songs, the candles in the small cottage, folk dancing and hot food plates are contrasted by modern tales of a rough Nordic winter landscape and streets full of snow. Spirituality and mysticism stand side by side with the common and playfull in this the darkest month of the year - december!

nosag CD 045Sforzando - MIDNIGHT AT THE LIGHTHOUSE

Lots of good temperament! Real live feelin´. I can imagine everybody was up dancing... It would have been very nice (or whatever word...) to be there, but this CD is almost filling you with the same "being there". I really like the stuff! Amazingly drunken sailor... Just pity it´s not more of it - I mean; 38 minutes pass so quickly and you want more. But that´s maybe better than "OK OK, you´ve made your point...!!!"? Looking forward to hear the next studio album with this energetic Australian worldfolkrock band!

Anouchka Mukherjee is a dramatic Soprano with broad resourses of expression - from the big drama of Wagner and Richard Strauss to close-ups in music by Alban Berg and playful young girls from Mozart Operas. nosag records will later this year release a solo perfomance with this amazing singer.

Baritone Rolf Bromme we have presented earlier on nosag records on CD (nosag CD 070 and nosag CD 118) and here he shows an even broader register when he performs music by as different composers as Handel, Bononcini, Josephson and Sibelius.

The singers are on this CD working with two pianists:

nosag CD 107Sparf / Härenstam Duo: Racconti

After two very well appreciated CDs (”The Bard”, nosag CD 074, and
”What Happened in Fremantle”, GASON CD 716) the guitar player
David Härenstam here presents a classical music production together with virtuoso violinist Nils-Erik Sparf. The Duo here plays hot and glowing versions of music from several times: Roman, Beethoven, Paganini, Piazzolla and a fresh contemporary piece by Swede Eberhard Eyser, specially written for these musicians. Here the Duo invites the pianist Bengt Forsberg to form a brilliant Trio.

The CD ”Racconti” - Tales - is a virtuoso presentation of exciting music where the violin playing of Sparfs in some Paganinisonatas with the very listening Härenstam guitar has an extra shine, together with the sparkling version of the Piazzolla Histoire de Tango.

Swedish Wind Orchestras are among the finest in the world, and this CD contains new music for big Wind Orchestra played by Sweden´s biggest wind orchestra - Stockholm Wind Symphony. We are offered one Intrada (by B Tommy Andersson, also the conductor of the orchestra on this CD), two Symphonies by two veterans, Csaba Deák and Daniel Börtz and two rather odd pieces by two young female composers - Catharina Palmér´s Tones, a study on overtones, and Carin Bartosch´s joke with the cyber world Cyd Cybersonix meets Webby Web Webster. His music is part of this CD with composers linked to Gothenburg in different ways. Smetana was not the only Bohemian passing the city - Also Jozef Czapek lived there in the mid 1800s.
On this CD musicians from the Gothenburg Opera play music 50, 100 and 150 years old, for strings, viola and piano and for piano solo by the two composers mentioned above and also by Swedes Elfrida Andrée and Hilding Hallnäs.

nosag CD 039Svärd Mannerstedt/Müller Roos - INSPIRED WOMEN

The woman as a composer and as a source of inspiration is the theme of this CD. It is the result of an active and stimulating research in order to find music connected with this idea. The music we finally decided to record was chosen because of its inspiring qualities... During the research were also found fascinating stories to read about the different lives of the persons whose music are performed in these recordings by eminent soprano Eva Svärd-Mannerstedt who really USES the lyrics in her performance, assisted by very following and colouring pianist Anette Müller-Roos who is also represented as a composer with small piano pieces.

Inger Wikström´s musical artistry has won the enthusiastic appraisal of audiences and critics throughout the world. She started performing in public at the age of 8. At 16 she played for the first time with the Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, and some years later she made successful debuts in London, Berlin and New York. Since then she has played in most European countries, USA, Latin America, Russia, Israel, Africa, China, Japan, and Australia. She has received several international awards a.o. the order of Rio Branco, the Villa-Lobos medal, the Bartók medal, and the Adelaide Ristori Prize. In 1977 she founded the Nordic Conservatory of Music, and in 1980 she founded the Nordic Chamber Opera.

From 1953 until his tragic death in 1961 Dag Hammarskjöld held the position as Secretary-General with the United Nations. He died in an air crash close to Ndola, while flying on the mission to negotiate a cease-fire between the Katanga and United Nation forces. After his death, the manuscript of Vägmärken-Markings was found in his home in New York.

The Outlaw is one of Strindberg’s earlier works. The play is set on Island during the Viking era. It opened at the Dramatiska Teatern in Stockholm 1871. The Outlaw, the opera composed by Inger Wikström had it’s world première at Confidencen, Castle theatre of Ulriksdal. This CD includes five scenes from the live recording of the original cast.

The response from the young audiences around the country instilled Wikström’s determination to continue to write music for both children performers and audiences. She has since her début let several literary classics come to life on stage, set to her music, such as James M. Barries much loved story of Peter Pan. Here distilled into a piano suite we can follow the adventures of Peter Pan.

nosag CD 104INGER WIKSTRÖM - OPERA: En dåres försvarstal

The chamber opera The Confession of a Fool is based on the novel by August Strindberg. It tells the story of the passionate love between Siri von Essen and himself. The book was originally written in french with the title Le plaidoyer d´un fou. By order of Strindberg it was not to be published in Sweden as long as Siri was alive. The libretto is not only based on The Confession of a Fool, but also on the love-letters between August and Siri published as He and She, and some of the dialogue is taken from Strindberg´s own plays. Siri played a very important role in Strindberg´s life and writing. She was his model and inspiration, his ideal and de-mon. This opera is about the dramatical marriage between two strong individuals, who´s love and hatred made it´s way into great literature. The worldpremière of The Confession of a Fool took place at the Vasa Theatre in Stockholm August 10th 2002.
