GASON CD 726BOB´S YOUR UNCLE

Bob's Your Uncle's not your usual blues fare! Sure, a quick look can be deceptive: a quartet consisting of vocals/harmonica, guitar, bass and drums is nothing out of the ordinary. The group interplay, the sometimes loose, sometimes tight and surprising arrangements tells a different story though. This is a band making an effort to take the road less travelled! If you ask them for influences they will of course mention Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters but depending on which of the members you ask they will also come up with names as disparate as Captain Beefheart, Led Zeppelin, Ornette Coleman and King Crimson...and when was the last time you heard a blues record featuring a Clarinet and a Bassoon in the horn section?

Fred Olsson Guitar
Johan Berke Bass

GASON CD 735BOB´S YOUR UNCLE / SPILLING OVER

Bob's Your Uncle's second CD takes the band to new grounds. This time around the main composers Fred Olsson & Johan Berke have been inspired by the creative rock music which had it’s peak in the late 60’s & the early 70’s, when everything wasn’t preconceived and the attitude towards playing was much freer with lots of room for spontaneity.

The band approaches it’s blues music with this attitude but no matter how progressive the music gets, it always has a strong blues feeling to keep it on track.

Bob's Your Uncle has existed since 2000 and works out of Stockholm, Sweden.
They now play 100% original material and the sound has partially become heavier compared to the first CD BOB’S YOUR UNCLE (GASON CD 726).

GASON CD 716DAVID HÄRENSTAM BAND - What happened in Fremantle?

The Swedish guitarplayer David Härenstam on this follower-up to his success album "The Bard" (on nosag records) here collaborates with a wide spectre of artists, including from "down under" singer/songwriter Sophie Moleta and strikingly odd improvisation band Tinnitus Therapi Trip. The mix is an unpredictable Härenstam collection of turns and secrets and surpizes - carrying lyrical whispering as well as ear-alarming ultra noice and gags. And when it is all over... it is not!

David Härenstam; Acoustic guitar, electric guitar
and all musical arrangements. (www.davidharenstam.com)

GASON Jazz CD 721DUOJ - Betraktelser

This is this debut album from DUOJ consisting of Cecilia Jonshult singing vocals, and Lars Jonshult playing double bass and bass guitar. On three tracks, Krister Andersson plays the tenor saxophone and clarinet which contributes to the magic of this music.

Jazz, scat, folk music, joy, melancholy, samba, stillness and swing are all present on this CD which vibrates with a rare tenderness and nearness. Why do you have to place all music in a specific category? Here, you open doors to land-scapes we all know but perhaps have not visited. Good music gives us an energy which dilates our senses. This music has that. This music could be presented in many different constellations. It is presented here in duos and trios which give a nakedness to the music, opening it up for interpretation by the listener. No one can be indifferent.

Featuring Cecilia Jonshult, singing vocals
Lars Jonshult, double bass and bass guitar
Krister Andersson, tenor saxophone and clarinet.

The Swedish poet/songwriter Evert Taube is a legend, his work is known by all Swedes and the lyrics are sometimes allmost wornout. GASON / GOLI08GÖRAN LINDELÖW - Two Days in August

These recordings were made in a Summer house in Grisslehamn 10 km North of Stockholm, Sweden. After a warm Summer the weather changed. The first day of recording, the Alandia Sea was stormy and rainy. The second day the sun was shining and the wind was calm. With his guitar, an amp, a mike and a laptop, jazz guitarist Göran Lindelöw improvised on some originals and a couple of standards he usually plays. These two days the songs sounded like this, as all the tracks were recorded without cuts and editing.

GASON / GOLI07GÖRAN LINDELÖW / JOHAN NORDFELDT - For your dreams

"The Swedish Summer is pictured in a combination of nine newly composed songs, far away from poorly tuned instruments used when singing with large crowds. Here we get a duet of guitar and trumpet playing a low keyed but swinging jazz, painting the blue sky with clouds, sunsets, feelings of the archipelago and the soft coolness of dense forests." (Lars Almkvist)

These two days sessions were recorded without cuts and editing.

GASON Jazz CD 2739Johan Berke - EASTERN SCENE IN GREY MINOR

This CD, the third release from Johan Berke w/Upstairs Five, Eastern Scene in Grey Minor, sees composer Johan Berke and the musicians further explore areas present on the earlier releases with the same group: Upstairs Five (2005) and The Cactus Suite (2006).
There's the tightly arranged ensemble work on the more melodic tunes, sort of "in the tradition", then there's the free improvising within a larger framework of structure and there's the extended suite and the short pieces which hints on European Contemporary Classical with, this time around, an undefined flavour of the East.

As on the earlier CD:s the group is sometimes augmented by Jan Eriksson on Pedal & Lap Steel. This CD sees him get more room as soloist than the previous ones. Also present, as on The Cactus Suite, is electric/experimental guitarist Barry Cleveland, who has provided a couple of atmospherical soundscapes for the title track.

GASON CD 720Riltons Vänner - Här är passion

The new CD from amazing Swedish a cappella vocal group - Riltons Vänner, that´s Rilton´s Friends. The group consists of the singers Daniel Greayer, Mathilda Lindgren, Linnéa Olsson, Sebastian Rilton and Mia Öhman.

Riltons Vänner’s third CD will be released the 1st of March in 2005. The recordings started in the summer of 2004, and the CD will solely consist of songs written by Peter Björklund, with all the lyrics in swedish. The title is Här är passion which translates "here is passion" (literal).

After their two first very successful releases the group and their songwriter now takes a gigantic leap developing new ways of expressing vocal a capella music. We hear both virtuoso popish tunes and intricate arrangements where you loose track of the separate parts and just lay back sipping the effortless, clean and precise singing of these great artists.

If you have the opportunity to hear and see them live - do not miss it for the world! They are equally great on stage - a not so common talent among the young groups of today!

We are a vocal band consisting of 3 girls and 2 boys, who has been singing together since year 2000. ("Riltons Vänner" means "Friends of Rilton") Since then we have performed in a variety of different settings, both in and out of Sweden. One of the most profitable occasions (at early stage) was when we sang in the Stockholm City hall (famous for the Nobel-prize party) in connection to a party for the competitors and staff of the Eurovision song-contest. There we met a German television-producer, Ado Schlier, who invited us to Münsterschwarzach to sing at a Christmas-concert. The following period we sang at different occations, we held a concert at the Royal Musical Academy in Stockholm. Due to this we got the honour to receive the Marianne Hillerud-scholarship. Since our graduation 2001 we have been working full-time with the group, recorded two CD's, held several concerts, and much more...

GASON CD710Sforzando - HIDEOUS SEA CRETURES

I felt like being surrounded by an echoe of George Harrison´s kharma on the market square of New Dehli, eating very sweet korma and fruit nan, drinking Cobra beer on a hot night... And then it suddenly stopped! (Will it be a fading song?) I didn´t get much of the lyrics. Who is singing? Some indian drummer? A bungy jump kind of tune that quickly gets stuck in the ear. But it doesn´t sound much like Sforzando. That nice ensemble normally has a much stickier roughness, specially from lead singer Quincy. Anyhow I like it.

Sven Petri was born in Linköping in 1910. His composition spanned over many genres. He published a book with children’s songs, and wrote many pieces for School Radio, where he also translated songs from other countries such as Israel, Russia, Iceland, and France.

From his own compositions where he has written both text and music, A Spring Concert (En vårkonsert) and Summer Chorale (Sommarkoral), are among the best known. Summer Chorale was written in 1976 and was performed for the first time at Seglora Church; it was therefore dedicated to Skansen.

Raymond Björling, opera singer, Jussi’s grandchild, etc. etc. We are used to reading about Raymond in this way. But here, he wants to present another side of himself. He has produced this recording with the idea of letting his feelings rule, and during the recording an evolution took place. These songs are a new treasure of folk songs that are touching on many levels.

Since the fall of 2002, Karin Strid is the organist and musical director at Seglora church at Skansen. She also works as a freelance musician, e. g. as an accompanist in many different contexts. From 1989-2000 she was often engaged by the Royal Parish in Stockholm. She often plays music from the Romantic period, and has among other things the collected organ works of Mendelssohn in her repertoire.
She can also be heard on nosag CDs 034, 038 and 102.

Guest appearances on the CD from violinist Cecilia Zilliacus,
cellist Kati Raitinen and from Vocal ensemble Vocation.

GASON CD 737The Celtic Bard - ROBIN WILLIAMSON

The contents of this compilation CD is selected from several of Robin Williamson´s earlier solo albums released on Pig´s Whisker Music and on GottDiscs.

The pieces cover a wide spectre of this Celtic Bard´s storytelling, harp playing and incredible voice talent, so fascinating both to the ear and the mind of the listener and very much echoing from his years with the Incredible Stringband. Robin Williamson will keep up your attention for more than 78 minutes and when you return from this musical and fantasy journey you will be a richer person indeed.

All instruments (with one exception in one song) are played by the multi-master himself and Scottish harp tunes from 16th Century are mixed with the personalities of Williamson´s own material - all with the Celtic harp as a central voice.

All music and text by Robin Williamson
except 10,12,14,16 (16th Century Scottish)
